I got bucked off by my own lovely Ted (my horse) yesterday
(now I am thinking he is evil). When I came off I screamed it hurt
soooo much, but when the folks at the barn started to call the
paramedics, I told them to hold on, got myself up and decided nothing
was broken (I do have health insurance, but I ride in another county
and didn't want to face any paper work).
I felt fit enough to get back
on, and sunny boy tried to get me off several more times.
After 30 minutes he realized I was glued into the saddle and wasn't
going anywhere. I got off, bathed him and returned him to his stall. I
cleaned all my tack. Got in my car and drove back to my county and
decided that the seatbelt over my shoulder was hurting too much.
I went
to the ER. Fortunately, I got a doctor I knew who has broken every bone
in his body riding horses.
He X-rayed my shoulder -- mild ACL separation -- and manipulated my
leg, which again made me scream, but he said it was no big deal. He told me I
might be able to go back to my yoga class today (I won't because I
can't hold myself up in downward dog) and I would definitely be fit to
ride on Friday.
I'm over 50. My mother wants me to quit riding, like now! This is the
first accident I've ever had where I have really, really hurt
afterwards. I usually bounce better. Am I too old for horses? Have I
lost my bounce now that I have gone through menopause?

PS: I don't want to have both of my blogs listed as a subgroup of Mommy and Family group. My horse is not a pet. He is catogorized as livestock. I have no children, nor do I have a family and I am not interested in them. Could we have an animal category? That would cover both of my blogs.
