Or take BART to the Montgomery Station.
I fly in early Thursday July 17th so I can poke around The City after I drop my bag off at the hotel but before I can check in to the Westin... so I looked at how to get from airport to hotel and I think just taking BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) from the Airport (if you are flying into San Francisco International) to the Montgomery Station stop is easy and relatively inexpensive ($5 - 6).
Folks could even arrange to meet at the airport and BART in together.
I just love trains, any type, even metros.

hey, what do i know? i live in the desert... but maybe the stop before montgomery, the powell station, is closer to the hotel.
