Where Have All the Users Gone?
by Jeneane Sessum

Antonella Pavese wonders about something I always wondered about but never considered asking--where are all of the people on Google Earth? As a business, one of Google's most important functions is connecting people to information. But when you look at Google Earth, as Antonella points out, people are hard to find.

In January, I wrote a post on Google Earth in which I complained about the eerie lack of people on the virtual planet. Since then I have been alerted of human sightings on Google Earth. Derek first noticed people in Saint Peter's Square and around Nelson's Column. Then Rosi left a comment saying that she saw a guy playing tennis, but she didn't remember where.

In the spirit of finding fellow earthlings on planet google, Antonella has launched the 2006 Google Earth Census and asks you to send her any sightings of real live human beings you find using Google Earth's app.

In the next few months, I want to know how many people inhabit Google Earth, where they live, what they wear, and any other detail you learn when exploring the planet. Keep the sightings coming!

Looks like there ARE people in Boston according to some of the commentors. Good to know. Businesses would be hurting in Boston without people.

I wonder if we'll see any snow...
