According to The New York times the American version of Irish Soda bread may not be any more authentic than the American tradition of eating corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick's day, but don't let that stop you from making this delicious bread. Are any of these options from various food blogs even remotely close to what is actually served in Ireland? Opinions seem to vary on that, but everyone raves about how good Irish soda bread tastes.

At Smitten Kitchen, Deb calls her version Blasphemous Bread and acknowledges it may not be authentic, but raves about the taste.

Kitarra serves her bread with memories of a trip to Ireland at Cooking Debauchery.

Laura Rebecca from Laura Rebecca's Kitchen isn't quite ready to share her Irish grandmother's recipe, but says the one from The New York Times is pretty close.

Elise also remembers eating this bread in Ireland, and at Simply Recipes she offers her version of Irish Soda Bread as well as links to many other recipes.

At Gluten-Free Goddess, Karina offers her gluten-free version of Gypsy Soda Bread.

There's a fantastic-looking Guiness Beef Stew and Brown Soda Bread at More Bread and Cheese, Please.

Rosa's Yummy Yums cooks up a Classic Irish Soda Bread in Geneva, Switzerland.

Thyme for Cooking, the Blog, has a wonderfully green Emerald Soup to go with her Irish Brown Bread.

The Fashionable Housewife is not Irish, but says she loves Irish Soda Bread.

More Good Memories to go with the Irish Soda Bread at My Sister's Kitchen.

Finally, at Firedoglake, a bit of Irish Music from YouTube to go with your Irish Soda Bread.

Contributing editor Kalyn Denny also blogs at Kalyn's Kitchen where there's no Irish Soda bread on the menu. Instead, today she's making Corned Beef with Veggies and Horseradish Sauce, because it's delicious, and the recipe seriously needed a better photo!

Landmark Tavern in NYC had the best

When I lived in NYC my fiend was a waiter at a restaurant out on the very west side (still called it Hell's Kitchen at that time...although they were trying to get "Clinton" to stick.) The Landmark Tavern had the yummiest Irish soda bread, which I don't think I had ever tried before, that I ever tasted.

A lighter version

My friend, Elaine Magee, just blogged a Lighter Version. I know Elaine and if the lighter one doesn't taste great, she won't suggest it - so I'm betting this is darn tasty.

Must make some

Elisa, would you believe I've never tasted Irish Soda bread? I love the sound of it though.

Denise, just looked at the lighter version and it sounds great.

Hi Kalyn!

Thank you so much for including my gluten-free [very untraditional] version of Irish soda bread. I wish you lived closer because I'd invite you over to share a slice - since you've never [ever?] tasted it! Happy Spring!

IRISH SODA BREAD

Hi Kalyn,

Thanks for mentioning my blog (Rosa's Yummy Yums) and speaking about my "Irish Soda Bread"!

This kind of bread tastes good and is made very easily, without making much of a fuss. I really recommend you to test it...

Cheers,

Rosa
