What is a Momblogger to do in her free time. (Stop laughing. There is a rumor that Moms who blog actually have free time!) Well, if you are a real go-getter and have no problem giving up sleep, you write. A book. Did you know that there are several Mommybloggers out there with books? Who knew that we could parent, blog and find time to write an actual book?

Take for example Meredith O'Brien and her wildly popular A Suburban Mom: Notes from the Asylum. Meredith blogs at Boston Mommy. Meredith - the mother of three grade schoolers (including a set of twins) - is also a columnist for Parents & Kids and contributes to the website DotMoms. Her collection of humor/parenting columns is what makes up her book, A Suburban Mom: Notes from the Asylum. It is easy to relate to and will find you laughing outloud at her views on parenthood.

A glimpse into the mind of a laid-back yet stressed-out, insecure, sleep-starved, TV-obsessed, news-junkie, Generation X parent navigating the labyrinth of modern parenthood with three young children, including a set of twins. From critiquing fashionistas who try to convince the pregnant public to buy maternity thongs and discussing whether at-home moms have sold out their feminist sisters, to tackling topics such as how to have a sex life while three kids are pounding on their parents' locked bedroom door, how to look cool while driving a mini-van (a clue: you can't) and what happens when a toddler eats trash, O'Brien's collection of 76 columns illustrates how parents are living their lives in the real American suburbs, not in the white picket fenced world portrayed in fuzzy, honey-hued greeting card ads.

Then there is BlogHer's own Mindy Roberts. She has published her "from blog to book" titled Mommy Confidential: Adventures from the Wonderbelly of Motherhood It is a memoir of her life as a mother and blogger.

Mommy Confidential is a naked, brutally funny, endearingly honest chronicle of family life beset by disaster on many fronts. Mindy keeps her family together through catastrophic illness, four bouts of postpartum depression, financial peril, relationship Chernobyl, familial Waterloo, and job instability. All through it her sense of humor and her sharp, edgy, witty writing keep her together and upright.

We certainly cannot forget SuperMom herself, Melanie Lynne Hauser. Her blog, The Refrigerator Door has had me in stitches more than once. Her writing online is priceless and makes you feel like you are instant friends. Her second book, Super Mom Saves the World will be released on March 6, 2007. (Shhhh, but I have read this one and just might have to say it could actually be wittier and more fun than her first book, Confessions of Super Mom. And that would be tough to do!)

At an age when many women throw themselves back into their careers after raising their children, Melanie looked around and realized she never had one in the first place. After deciding she wasn't creative enough to start her own business (like all those women on Oprah), she turned to the one thing she did know: Books. A bookworm from the time she was able to form words, Melanie realized that what she really wanted to do was write books. So she wrote one. It stank. She buried it out in her backyard, next to the compost heap. She wrote another book. It didn't stink quite so much; in fact it got her not one, but two literary agents. Still, nobody wanted to publish it. She wrote another book. It stank the least of all, and led her to her current, wonderful literary agent, but still it went unpublished. Then she wrote CONFESSIONS OF SUPER MOM. So far, nobody has said that it stinks. In fact, so many people like it that the sequel, SUPER MOM SAVES THE WORLD will published by NAL in early 2007. And finally, at long last, Melanie has a career. (And old men in nursing homes everywhere breathe a huge sigh of relief.)

And of course we should mention blogger Alana Morales. Her blog Domestically Challenged has been a staple in my Feedburner for ages. (Not to mention the many times she has helped fellow mom writers out of a writers block or freak out.) Her book, by the same name as her blog: Domestically Challenged: A Working Mom's Survival Guide to Becoming a Stay-at-home Mom

Written as a humorous guidebook, this book shows new stay at home moms how to:
~ Get over the myth of the Super Mom
~ Keep the kids entertained without hiring a circus
~ Find ways to keep up with housework, short of hiring a housekeeper (though we'd like to!)
~ Deal with the emotional aspects of her new job (including boredom and every mom's favorite - guilt)
~ And do things as outlandish as finding time for herself

And of course we have a Momblogger author who is near and dear to my heart seeing as we share the same literary agency is the very popular blogger Martha Kimes whose debut book, Ivy Briefs: True Tales of a Neurotic Law Student can be pre-ordered now. Her blog, The Random Muse has been a favorite for ages! Now, you will be able to get more of her wit and wisdom when you get her new book. If you like her blog (and why wouldn't you? It rocks!), you will love her book.

And let's not forget Stefanie Wilder-Taylor, author of Sippy Cups Are Not for Chardonnay: And Other Things I Had to Learn as a New Mom who actually has time to appear on the Today show and still keep blogging at Baby on Board AND work on yet another book. Not to mention she can make you feel as if you are her BFF after just a few conversations.

[From Publisher's Weekly] When Los Angeles comedian and television writer and producer Wilder-Taylor got pregnant, she feared undergoing this process: "a perfectly sane woman who swigs Jack Daniel's, never goes to sleep before eight a.m., and has had at least one STD gives birth and suddenly becomes a different person... [who] subscribes to three dozen parenting magazines, thinks a wild night is tossing back two O'Doul's, and never hits the hay after eight p.m." Of course, now that the author has a daughter, she's smitten; the child "grew on me every day, and by six months I was definitely her bitch."

I would be totally remiss if I left out the Mother of all Mom Blogging Mom Books, the very well known Ann Douglas and her many Mother of all Mothering books. Her website, The Mother of All Blogs is a fantastic resource for all things mothering. Not to mention she is one of the sweetest women I know. She is always willing to help out not only new moms, but authors just starting out. She rocks!

A much sought after speaker who is equally comfortable leading small-group workshops or delivering keynote addresses, Ann is widely recognized for her ability to both entertain and inspire her audiences and to get to the heart of the issues that are of greatest concern to parents today.

Now, as a mom working on breaking into this group, I can only sigh a happy sigh at the wonderful women who grace the presence of not only our blogrolls, but our library shelves. I suggest you check them out.
