Replacing incandescents...

I would love to be more energy efficient and replace my every-night 250W incandescent bulbs with something else. But the quality and color of the light in the flourescent bulbs I've tried so far are is so bad that I can't stand it. Everything seems shadowed or harsh or oddly colored.

Wish they could really fix this technology. Any suggestions for more "vision friendly" and bright bulbs to try?
