Mommybloggers do it in groups: Part One
by Jennifer Satterwhite

imageYou already know we have amazing Moms who blog. We have as many voices in the land of Mommy & Family as we have Moms who are blogging. There is no way you can possibly be looking for a blog you will enjoy and not find one on our blogroll. So what can possibly be better than that? Finding a blog that has a group of women blogging for them! Some of these sites have the voices of several women who contribute essays, some are more like guides to help you find exactly what you are looking for in the world of motherhood, while others are focused on pointing you in the direction of other Moms and their sites. What do they have in common other than the "motherhood factor" they each have? Each will give you valuable information, different perspectives on motherhood, and humor...lots of humor!

Mamazine.com has an article that I think many of us can relate to written by Renee Cashmere Verran entitled "Breeder Cow: The Bitch Is Back"

After living through what feels like the hardest year of my life so far, I realize I forgot myself when I became a mom and wife. I became Donna Reed when it's my nature to be Roseanne. I didn't realize how much it was killing me to keep quiet and behave until so many things came to a head in September, and I thought I might have a nervous breakdown.

I loved how she said that. How many of us changed because we thought we had to only to realize it was hurting us and everyone around us to not be ourselves?

Over at Mother Talkers, 1plain1peanut posted a link to a very powerful video on the importance of making sure our children are kept as safe as we can possibly keep them when we have them in the car with us.

Christine Miller, a mother in Texas had the unthinkable happen to her three year old son, Kyle. Kyle was secured in a booster seat with the seat belt latched. His older sister was also in a booster next to him. A car ran a red light and struck their van, Kyle's seat belt failed, and he was thrown from van and killed.

Watch the video that she links to. Every Mom needs to be reminded of how easily one small thing (that we think we are doing right!) can make the difference between life and death.

Over at Silicon Valley Moms, big things are happening! Not only are they doing amazing work and have amazing writers contributing to the site, they recently launched New York City Moms Blog. (I cannot wait to see how that one grows!)

Recently on SVMoms, bonggamom posted about her experience taking her daughter to see The Nutcracker for the first time. The moments of reliving her own eagerness at watching this ballet. It made me eager to take my daughter to see it with me now.

Today was the first time I have watched the Nutcracker as a mother, and again it was a new experience for me. I enjoyed it as I always do, but I watched Natalie just as much as I did the stage. I kept looking over at at her, watching her rapt little face and round eyes, wondering if she was experiencing the same emotions I did so long ago. I wonder if she looked at the sugarplum fairy and thought she was the prettiest, most graceful creature in the whole world. I wonder if she wanted to run onto the stage and enter the land of sweets like I did. I wonder if she watched the Nutcracker and knew beyond a doubt that she wanted to be a ballerina when she grew up, like I did when I watched it for the first time.

But it is not just about the blogs themselves, but reaching out to others, such as Kimchi Mamas has recently done with their outreach to Asian Pacific Women's Center with their proceeds from BlogHerAds revenue.

We have decided to send all of the proceeds to the Asian Pacific Women's Center in honor of the holiday season and our wonderful readers. We encourage you to help us share the love by making a donation to our "Tip Jar" (click the button in the right side bar for more information). 100% of the proceeds will go to this organization, helping other Kimchi Mamas and their children in the U.S.

And of course, how could I leave out Mommybloggers? Right now there is a contest running. An easy, fun contest that only asks two things of you. Two things that if you are willing to share with us, you will get prizes! Prizes, I tell you! So far, we have laughed ourselves silly at the answers! Contribute and you, too, can win.

Stay tuned for Part Two where I give you examples of even more group Mom blogs. You won't want to miss it.
