The International Union of Baker and Bakers-Confectioners have declared that October 16 is World Bread Day. Wouldn't you like to bake some bread in honor of the day?
There are a lot of food bloggers willing to help with a tasty bread recipe to get you started. The Fresh Loaf is spreading the word about World Bread Day, and Zorra from Kochtopf has organized a World Bread Day blogging event for people to share their bread recipes. I'm seeing bread recipes everywhere I go so here are a few to get you started.
Alice Q Foodie writes about The 12 Steps of Bread Baking.
Peabody at Culinary Concoctions by Peabody has a delicious looking Graham Flour Banana Bread to tempt you.
Over in Italy, Piperita at The Kitchen Pantry is making Banana Bread with Chocolate and Walnuts.
In Stockholm, Orchidaea of Viaggi and Sapori is making Panini Dolci.
In Canada, Jasmine from Confessions of a Cardomom Addict hasn't made bread for years, but she comes through with Neil's Harbour White Bread.
Apple Challah is the bread offering of Eliza from Notes From My Food Diary.
The End of the Season Zucchini Bread from Laura Rebecca's Kitchen is almost enough to make you welcome the end of summer.
Emily at Appetitive Behavior has Herb Flatbread with Ham, Red Onion, and Gruyere.
Haalo from Cook (almost) Anything At Least Once has Seeded Orange Soda Bread.
At first I didn't come across the World Bread Day post of my own personal bread-making idol, Ulrike from Kuchenlatein, so I posted a beautiful recipe for Oatmeal Bread from her. She found it and left a comment pointing me to her English entry for World Bread Day, Sourdough Seed Bread, and three more entries in German. (Now you see why she's my personal bread-making idol!)
I'm sure there are many, more great bread recipes being posted tomorrow for World Bread Day, so visit Kochtopf on Tuesday to see the Roundup of all the bread recipes.
(Edit - added 10-18-06 - There were 113 entries for the World Bread Day event, so many that host Zorra had to divide them into two sections! If you want to see bread recipes from food bloggers all over the world, go to World Bread Day, Country Names A - J, and World Bread Day, Country Names K - Z)
Contributing editor Kalyn Denny of Kalyn's Kitchen makes bread (in a machine), and she'll be writing about what kind of bread to choose for The South Beach Diet for World Bread Day.

Roberta, can I come when you move to Italy? I see so much great looking food on the European food blogs.
Ulrike, so glad you found this and updated us. I think you were ahead of me on the World Bread Day celebrating, so I missed your post, but the sourdough seed bread looks great. It reminds me of my grandma Denny, who always made sourdough bread.
