It was my first day at summer camp as a mom and my son's first day at camp as a 4 yr. old.
This is the real deal camp. He's in a full day camp, 9 -4.
We have been talking about camp since last week. I have been saying "Wow B, just think of all the fun you are going to have...think of all the friends you will make...all the things you will learn...I am so excited for you". In my heart I was petrified and worried about my lil man fending for himself, asking for help when necessary and being a well mannered boy.
7:00 am
I wake my son up and say "WHOOO HOOO...it's B's first day of camp! Rise and Shine gorgeous!" He smiles.
7:15 am
B walks down stairs and says "Mom, I don't think I should go anywhere today". I say "why?" He says "Well you know I have allergies".
I said "Well you seem fine to me and you are not sneezing, you are going to camp"
7:25
Waffles are ready.
B says "OH cool, I love waffles" He said "I think I am going to have a shake too" I said "great, eat up because you'll need all your energy for camp"
8:30
We head out the door for camp and arrived by 8:45.
My son clings to me and I am o.k. with it because in my heart I was clinging to him but needed to show the strong side. Inside I think I was more scared than he was. I had a ball in my throat since last night.
I was taking pictures and smiling like crazy and holding back the tears.
My big boy was going to camp.
As soon as circle time was called and he waved and walked away, I turned around and saw another mother crying. Seeing another mom cried gave me a sense of relief...aaaaahhhhh...it's o.k. I can cry too.
My day flew by.
3:38 pm
I picked him up and he looked like he had the time of his life. His face, hands and legs were dirty.
He said "Mom, my leg hurts" "I hurt it when I was running because I am really fast runner". He then continued "I hurt it when I was playing soccer"
We got home and he was limping.
I took him to the Dr. and she confirmed what I saw. His knee was a little swollen. NO CAMP TOMORROW.
Before we left for the Dr., he kept saying "NO SHOTS MOM" I said "Of course not, you don't need a shot because your leg is just a little swollen"
Well, little did I know my lil' guy had some blood withdrawn. My Dr. wanted to check for Lyme Disease and anemia.
He seems to be in good spirits but still limping.
When were driving home from the Dr. he said "Mom, someone told on me at camp". I said "For what?" He said "I called someone a Poopy head". I said "B, I tell you all the time that calling someone Poopy head is not nice and not necessary". I said "What did the counselor say?" He said "The counselor said NO NAME CALLING". I said "YES, you know better". He said "I know, I am sorry!"
Ya see why I am worry wort???
Although, I do know he is o.k....once again!!.
