I LOVE that Biden is being introduced through his groundbreaking support of VAWA, the violence against women act.
PunditMom is live-blogging the speech over at Momocrats.
I love Jill Biden right now- how overwhelming this must be for her. I am so touched by Biden the father. I am so touched by Michelle Obama crying her eyes out. I love that we have men on the podium who are openly emotional- who cry and hug and kiss, father and son. And Biden did a wonderful job of setting apart his life as an underdog's, a fighter's.
Biden's speech I: "The America that George Bush left us"
McCain doesn't get it. McCain=Bush. But "Obama is the great American story." He worked his way up and he gets it.
More children and families in IL have health care bc of Obama? I didn't know that. Interesting Biden is giving a bio of Obama's legislative accomplishments.
Obama tapped into the oldest belief in America: we have the power to change things.
II: Direction of McCain: "More of the same."
McCain has voted with Bush 95%. The "John" touch is very effective: Biden diminishes McCain by familiarizing him.
McCain voted 19 times against the minimum wage.
And the most effective line: McCain will continue to spend $10 billion a month when the Iraqis sit on billions of oil surplus.
Obama will bring down healthcare costs by $2500 for the average American family!!
III: Foriegn Policy-- "John McCain was wrong and Barack Obama was right."
Afghanistan: the real front of the War on Terror. Russia in Georgia shows the impact of Bush Administration's neglect of what matters in foreign policy. Biden: Bush foriegn policy has been an abysmal failure.
McCain said Afghanistan didn't matter anymore- it was a success. Obama said we needed more troops. Obama was right.
Iran: even the Bush Administration recognizes Obama was right- we need to talk to Iran
Iraq: even the Bush Administration recognizes Obama was right- they are about to set a timeline for withdrawal of US troops.
We're ready. This is our time.
Pretty short speech. I liked the takeaways: clear, powerful.
And here's Barack. It's good to be a Democrat tonight!!!

Riveting, wasn't it?
MOMocrats loved Biden's mom and his grandkids! And everyone here seems to think Biden and Obama rocked... why some of the television media is criticizing his speech, I don't know - the buzz from the convention is that everybody did it right today and that they passed the unity test with flying colors.
Morra, thank you!
I missed it all. Picture me and my twelve-year-old, stranded on the side of a road for...a while...all because I'm driving a friend's car this week and I was stupid enough to run out of gas.
So - no television. No radio. No nothing. Except this live blog. Thank you!
Now I must ask: Did you catch John Kerry and what did you think of it, as a former Kerry campaign staffer?

I love what Clinton said
I love what Clinton said about the "power of example versus the example by power."
Did you think of his contribution tonight? The crowd seemed crazy for him.

Biden on ticket
It was a great speech, especially at the beginning! I think Biden brings a lot to this ticket, especially his story about his commitment to his children when they were little.
