Power Surge.

by KT theAstrologer at 9:54am Wed, 20 Aug 2008 under Astrology & Horoscopes
The Sun trines Pluto tonight, creating a real power surge during the day as the aspect builds. Dig deep and go far. You're tapping into the final degrees of Fire Signs -- by far the most creative element. You'll discover wells of imaginative resources you didn't even know you had. These could be inner resources, but they could just as easily be something tangible you find in your closet, basement or attic. This is all about personal power and making the best of it. You go!

DIY: When Things Go Wrong

by chris at 7:39am Wed, 20 Aug 2008 under Hobbies, Crafts & DIY
The past few days have been an exercise in what could go wrong, will go wrong. And even those things that don't go wrong will be fraught with obstacles so as to eat up most of your time. Make you rip the hair from your head. And cause you to drink straight out of the wine bottle.

Should The Drinking Age Be Lowered To 18?

I won't presume to know better than a bunch of college and university presidents...But, I'm just not sure I believe that lowering the drinking age to 18 will reduce teen binge drinking. However, I imagine, it might take some of the responsibility off of the colleges to reduce underage drinking on their campuses.

No More Pie?

by BackyardConservative at 12:13am Wed, 20 Aug 2008 under Politics & News, Hillary, women, Obama, economy, McCain
I like pie. Lemon meringue is my favorite in the summer, but I can go for key lime anytime. Why talk about pie? Barack Obama is eyeing it.My piece of the pie doesn't deprive someone else. Life is not a zero sum game. My success is not someone else's failure. My wanting to learn more does not mean someone else learns less. And if I have the chance to earn more it doesn't necessarily mean someone else makes less.

Inspiring things to view out here in the ether

Today I was idly checking twitter.com, and someone had mentioned a joyous video by Franti. I have no idea who he is, but I have played the video about 20 times.."It seems like everywhere I go, the more I see, the less I know -- but I know one thing -- that I love you." I am bopping in my office chair typing this, and feeling what it is to have a joyful spirit.

Veepstakes Talk

by Mary Katharine Ham at 10:03pm Tue, 19 Aug 2008 under Politics & News, Election 2008
This is the week, or so all the whispering says. Obama's pick seems more imminent than McCain's and, as such, is getting all the press today.Word is Joe Biden is the front-runner. Sister Toldjah looks back at what Biden was saying about presidential qualifications when he was running for president in '88:

Neuroanatomy, Samadhi and Universal Consciousness

Sometimes I write too much because I don’t want folks to miss anything. I don’t want to be accused of telling parts of the story. Then there are times when I know I can’t begin to convey the inspiration and knowledge that has been graciously given from one person to another.  One of my purposes on the planet is being a conduit for information so I have to make the effort even if I fall a little short of the goal.

Mary Matalin and that Obama book

Republican pundit Mary Matalin is taking a lot of heat for her role in the publication of Jerome Corsi's widely-discredited bestselling book, The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality  According to Matalin's website, she "runs" Threshold Editions, the Simon and Schuster imprint that published Obama Nation.

Nina Garcia's The One Hundred gets you thinking about what's in your closet

by Susan Wagner at 1:37pm Tue, 19 Aug 2008 under Fashion & Shopping, wardrobe basics, Nina Garcia
I love lists; I love the illusion of order and control that a list gives me.  I make lists all the time; lists are soothing and comforting and calming.  But a list can also be limiting, because it makes us conscious of what is left out.  The whole idea of a To Do list, for example, is to eliminate all the unnecessary things that clutter our day so that we can focus ONLY on the list and GET THINGS DONE.  And while this kind of focus can be helpful, it can also be stressful, because we're aware of all the possibilities we are passing by.

Why Women Need To Be OK With Kaine As The Country's Next VP

by Erin Kotecki Vest at 11:26am Tue, 19 Aug 2008 under Politics & News, Election 2008, DEMOCRATS, Barack Obama
Virginia Governor Tim Kaine says he has a "faith-based opposition" to abortion and it's got women voters buzzing. As a speculated VP nominee, the buzz is growing into a loud roar. I'd like to squish the bees creating the noise, maybe not with my entire shoe but at least with a nice rolled-up newspaper.
