At the BlogHer conference this weekend, there's been a lot of of conversation about conversations. Addressed at the panels I've attended have been such great topics as op-ed writing, appearing in the media, and fundraising online--and I've met many fascinating women. That said, I feel something is missing. It's civic discourse.

One child is grown, and the other is nearly grown, but I remember car line, getting the maps from the school at the beginning of year with arrows showing parents how to enter and exit in an orderly manner. The summer camps my children attended had similar maps and letters with instructions of how to pick up your child in the least confusing way. 

With so many bloggers travelling this weekend and throughout the summer it's time to talk about vacation reading. How many books to pack, what kind of books to pack - these are all things we need to think about when packing. Or when we find ourselves in the airport gift shop. Here's a few things that I've discovered work best when combining reading and travelling. 1. Pack more books than you think you'll need. If you normally read one book on vacation pack three. Have back-ups for those rainy vacation days and in your carry-on that "extended" layover in Chicago.

At last year's BlogHer conference, I loved the mommyblogging sessions. They were full of spirited, lively and intelligent discussions. And the session I attended Friday morning was no exception. This past week, armed only with a garden fork, I worked for an hour at making my own soil, mixing together kitchen scraps, shredded papers, and the remains collected in our vacuum. 

Like millions of others who were willing to play along and help Make History with Firefox 3 and set a world record for downloads, I downloaded Firefox 3 on the appointed day.

The picnic gene, it's clearly in the X chromosome because we women, we loooove to eat outside, and those men, well, not so much. Give us a sunny patio, a rooftop view, a shady spot beneath a tree, any day, any evening, we're in the mood for an outdoor experience.
