Health Care..Canada and the UK..some good references
by Crunchy Carpets

Throughout all the fierce discussion and debates that are flying around BlogHer regarind the up and coming election...Healthcare seems to be a big issue.

Canada's version of this gets mentioned quite a lot. Michael Moore made it sound like heaven.

It isn't. It has problems. But it is still good....and like the UK's NHS, FAR from some scary socialist welfare system.

Our doctors make good money too.

Canada and the UK are far from some wacky socialist states...we are not communists.

We are a democracy. Just like you guys...we just aren't based on the Roman set up...and capatilism is not the focus of system.

Our taxes are high, but most of us are generally satisfied that they cover services that we want and need.

Our taxes pay for our FREE healthcare. We also pay a monthly amount.

We are not crippled by debt when we get out of hospital. We are guaranteed care...it tends to just depend on where you live on the quality and timelyness of the care.

Check out Wikipedia for some good discussions on our health care and the UK's too.

Read the post about Tommy Douglas. He was the creator of the Canadian system. He was a deeply religious man...Calvanist.

It was his Christian roots that led him to the concept.

I find it amazing that with all the hew and cry about how fervent you have to be to be GOOD AMERICAN Christian to run the country..that the idea of any sort of charity has gone completely out the window.

And not charity..just the idea that there is nothing wrong with making sure all citizens have some sort of standard of life and living that enables everyone a fair chance.

Oh hey...I didn't say it was doing good..it
needs fixing..

From the top down it needs fixing...but it is fixable..if you can get the beaurocrats noses out it all.

Between hospital mismanagement and contrary rules across the country..it needs fixing..but it still chugs along...and I am still glad I have it...

Between critically ill family and losing a baby...I have seen enough of ER's and hospitals..but boy...I got to see all the right people...even had a cancer scare..they whipped me in asap for all the right tests..
