Tomorrow I’ll be celebrating an anniversary. Fifteen years ago, on January 3, 2004, I first set foot on these fair islands in the Pacific. I came to accept a three-week temporary duty assignment for my employer, expecting to be back in California in time to celebrate my son’s birthday with him at the end of the month. Life has a funny way of thwarting our expectations, though, and I’m still here a decade and a half later. If fate doesn’t intervene again, this will be my last opportunity to celebrate the day in Hawaii.
I’m going home.

If you're a Jay Leno fan, NBC just gave you an extra hour and a half of sleep. If you're not a Jay Leno fan, NBC just cut you out of about 23% of their primetime schedule. That's because today NBC announced that comedian Jay Leno has cut a deal to do a show, suspiciously like his current "Tonight Show" in primetime at 10 PM. And here's the kicker, five nights a week. That means next fall, Jay Leno will be the King of NBC.

Confused about new media? Wondering what all that streaming of TV shows online will mean to your regular viewing patterns? Curious about how the new media business models will affect how you consume news and entertainment?
Never fear, if you're reading this post, odds are you probably know a little something about blogs, the internet and new media, but if you want to learn more, listen to my podcast interview with Julia Boorstin, the media and entertainment reporter for CNBC.

Julia Boorstin of is an entertainment and media reporter for CNBC. Her job allows her to cover issues as varied as the projected opening box office for films like "Dark Knight" and "Mamma Mia," to interviewing the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg. She also writes a blog called "Media Money" for CNBC's website that covers new media, old media and everything in between. Next week I'm going to have the pleasure of doing a podcast interview with Julia about her job, her life and above all media and money.
Love is glue, money is oil. While staying at home with your children may be its own reward, the world runs on money. So, it's possible, especially in today's economy, that you've considered moving from SAHM (Stay-At-Home-Mom) to WAHM (Work-At-Home-Mom). You may have have decided that your family needs a financial boost, but lamented that you don't want to work outside the home.
If you live in the United States, protecting your creative output just became easier. Today, the US Copyright Office unveiled a new online system, eCO, for registering copyrights. Users can fill out a registration application, pay the registration fee, and upload copies of the work being registered. A Powerpoint tutorial, tip sheet (.pdf) and list of frequently asked questions are available to help newcomers through the process.
Which do you think is a better idea?
a. Children's book depicting breastfeeding babies and toddlers
b. Elmidae: An eco-friendly intellectual clothing line
c. Girl Talk: Read to Achieve
It's not as if people haven't been warning us for years that if we didn't curb our addiction to oil we were headed toward an economic tsunami. It's just that we've been treating them as if they were Chicken Little. Now the chickens are coming home to roost.
If soaring gas prices, plummeting home prices and shrinking disposable incomes were not enough to put consumers on edge, how's this to add to your insomniac tendencies: we could be facing the "f" word: famine. Our entire food supply could be in jeopardy because honey bees are disappearing at an alarming rate.
The screengrab team is tired, but Greg's still editing. It's been a long day full of learning, interaction, blogging, and soon-to-be drinking.
