The Motherhood and Beyond: Finding Your Tribe Online

Emily McKann and Cooper Munroe met 20 years ago. They began blogging together at Been There a few years ago, and recently relaunched The Motherhood, what they call "your neighborhood of friends." The site features member spotlights, "neighborhoods" and "circles", where potentially like-minded moms can connect.  A few already started?

BlogHer '08: The Entertainment Bloggers

I'm back from BlogHer '08 and it was such a jam packed weekend, I'm still processing all the great experiences.  The women were as varied as their blogs, the parties were loud and fun, and the event itself ran, from my point of view, flawlessly.Melissa Silverstein of Women & Hollywood and I had the pleasure of hosting an entertainment bloggers' meet-up and I wanted to use this first post after BlogHer '08 to showcase some of those women and their blogs.  Anyone I don't mention in this post, I will make every effort to mention in upcoming posts.

Good Blogs, Good Books

Three years of reading blogs seems to have changed the way I relate to books, especially autobiographies.  I've been riveted this week by a book called We Took To the Woods.  It was written over 50 years ago by Louise Dickinson Rich.  It's a smart, funny and conversational read, the story of a woman who, with her husband and children, simply packed up and headed to the remotest corner of rural of Main

Will blogger's Polk Award finally bring respect?

Joshua Michael Marshall, the founder Talking Points Memo, is among the recipients of the 2007 George Polk Awards. We're talking about a blogger winning a journalism award that has street cred with the folks who still pride themselves on knowing what a pica stick is for.

Survey says! 75% of journalists use blogs for story ideas, angles and insight

Did you ever blog or read a blog post about something that, within days, maybe even hours showed up in a print or online publication piece? The topic, a few words, maybe similar sources. You aren't seeing things. Jerry Johnson, head of strategic planning at Brodeur, reported results of his survey of U.S. journalists at the Consumer Electronics Show last week in Las Vegas. From Fox Business:

BlogHer Health & Wellness Blog Round-Up

by Denise at 2:19pm Sun, 25 Nov 2007 under Health & Wellness, wellness, health, blogs
Zan was bugging me last week about showcasing more "fitness" bloggers, (bugging me is a good thing, not a bad thing - in case you were wondering), and she's right. We do need to showcase fitness bloggers more often. What better time than the weekend after Thanksgiving? I love, love, love Goddess in Training - what's not to love with a graphic like that... heh. She has a post with a LOL cat, a lesson for parents everywhere, and lots more. I have a pair of black cargo pants and a t-shirt that I love – and cannot fit into! They’re my 1st goal outfit. I’d need to be about 110kg to fit into them.

One Degree of Separation: Five Blogs I Found Through Blogs I Love

Know today was BlogDay? Neither did I, until someone from BlogHer told me. I'm always happy to shoot my fingers off about people I find who are excellent writers or awesome photographers or whatever combination of wonderfulness they've got going on here on the Internet. Therefore, I'm here to share some with you.

Liveblogging: Finding and Following Your Passion - Blogher 2007 Liveblog

I am liveblogging the first breakout session of the Blogher conference, "Finding and Following Your Passion." Here's the description from the conference website: "Many people define blogging as writing with passion. How do you define passion? Do you follow your passion when you write, when you work, when you go through your day? Could you? Is blogging the only way and time that you allow yourself the freedom to follow your passion? Join bloggers who are blogging about and with passion every day."
