...a site where you can make your own political ads, or pay for someone else's to air on broadcast television.
When you first enter the site you are given three options.
1. Sponsor an ad to run on broadcast television
2. Create your own ad
3. View ads others have made
When you go into the "Browse" option you are greeted with a menu on the left hand side. Political candidates...when you click on one of the candidates, you then get the drop-down choices of "pro" and "con" - which is nice, because I somehow assumed that I was just going to see love-fest videos for the candidates.
I cannot imagine spending time to create a "con" video of a candidate, but that's just me. My anger just isn't that big.
Unable to resist, I clicked on "Clinton" and "pro" - I'm given a few options, and when I choose one the first thing that comes up in the video screen states:
If you like the following ad, VoterVoter can work with you to create a similar ad that conforms to FEC guidelines. Please call our Campaign Consultants for more information...
How cool is that?
So I watched the ad...it looks like apolitical ad...and at the end that message about creating an ad that's FEC compliant comes up again.
But...at the end of the ad itself it says "I'm Hillary Clinton and I approve this message." So it looks like one of two things happened.
1. This was posted by someone near to the campaign.
2. Along with the b-roll of Clinton meeting with people, it was dubbed in by the creator.
Honestly I'm not sure, because it looks like a legit ad.
I'm going to have to do some more research, but in the meantime, visit VoterVoter and enjoy the ads. I'm a commercial junkie myself, so I get really excited every four years when I know the best and brightest are making political ads.
Sometimes I wish I could get all the political ads on one DVD. Then I could make some popcorn, open a bottle of wine, and enjoy it the same way most people would enjoy a good book or feature film.
